Young people are constantly making decisions about who they are, what they can accomplish and where they belong. Yet many have limited opportunities to meet professionals, explore different careers or connect classroom lessons with the world beyond school.
JA volunteers help close that gap.
By sharing real-world knowledge, answering questions and encouraging students to participate, volunteers make learning more relevant and the future feel more attainable. A conversation that may seem ordinary to an adult can become the moment a student discovers a career, recognizes a personal strength or begins to imagine a new possibility.
Volunteers do not need to be teachers, financial experts or accomplished public speakers. Junior Achievement provides the training, materials and support needed for each experience. What matters most is a willingness to listen, participate and show students that their ideas have value.
Find the Opportunity That Fits You
Junior Achievement of South Florida offers several ways to volunteer, with opportunities ranging from a few hours to ongoing mentorship.
At JA BizTown, volunteers guide fifth-grade students as they operate businesses, manage money and make decisions in a simulated town. During JA Career Discovery Park and Career Exploration Experience activities, volunteers help middle-school students explore industries and career possibilities through conversations, demonstrations and hands-on experiences.
Professionals can also support JA Career Bound by participating in career talks, résumé workshops, mock interviews, workplace visits and skill-building activities. Through JA 3DE, volunteers may coach or judge student case challenges, mentor young entrepreneurs or help high school seniors address real business problems.
For those who enjoy energy and friendly competition, the JA Stock Market Challenge offers an opportunity to help students navigate an engaging simulated trading floor while practicing teamwork, financial decision-making and investment strategy.
Some experiences take place at JA World, while others are hosted at local schools or businesses. Depending on the program, volunteer commitments can range from approximately one to five hours, with longer-term mentoring opportunities also available.
